Beta-Local  awards 14 grants of $5,000 each to visual arts projects for a total of $70,000. This scholarship focuses on supporting experimental practices within the visual arts, which respond to the current context of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean and which at the same time consider new forms of presentation and communication aimed at diverse audiences. Beta-Local’s commitment as an organization is to support artistic practices that experiment in their form, content and contexts of presentation, as well as projects with limited access to other production funds.

MÁQUINA SIMPLE  will specifically support visual arts projects. With visual art projects, we refer to projects of sculpture, installation, painting, video art, sound art, performance art and printed or digital publications that in their form and content are a piece of visual art. Curatorial projects will be considered if they work directly with visual artists or are developed by them. Selected individuals must complete a public presentation or exhibition of their projects within the scholarship time frame, which is one year from the scholarship being awarded.

“Our granting program recognizes the equal importance of small, community-oriented spaces, major museums, and everything in between. Together, and with the foundation’s support, they work to collectively amplify the voices and visions of artists, which deepens and diversifies the national cultural discourse.”
