Since 2006, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) has fulfilled a vital role in the city, spotlighting the ways in which contemporary artists and artworks reflect and connect their communities, encourage understanding of local, national and global issues, and work towards social change. The institution presents group and solo exhibitions—often emerging artists’ first museum shows—and works to integrate overlooked histories into contemporary visions of culture. Alongside exhibitions, MOCAD hosts talks and panels, workshops, and experimental performances that are free to the public.
