Cinema of Sensations: The Never-Ending Screen of Val del Omar will be the most comprehensive US survey to date of the influential Spanish filmmaker, Jose Val del Omar (1904- 1982). An early pioneer of multiple projection techniques, surround sound technology, and expanded cinema, Val del Omar intended his work to be experienced completely, through immersive cinematic installations. Due to the technical and spatial requirements of Val del Omar’s work, his films have rarely been screened and he remains largely unknown by US audiences. In addition to Val del Omar’s work, the exhibition will include new media projects commissioned from four contemporary artists and collaborative teams and will be accompanied by public programs and a full color catalog.
